I Loved, I Hated, I Know

The tumultous wave rose
Almost lifting from the sea
To be shoved down by the winds
The powerful will of destiny.

Perhaps Dante paused before the gates of Hell
I do not know if he even knew God
The Devil asked if my soul I could sell
But I was too scared to even nod.

The way he looked on the battlefield
Grinning with that crazy look in his eye
Had the souls of all men chilled
And they ran before his mighty cry.

The storm rose to the sea that beckoned
Stirring her waters till they crashed and bellowed
But not just the ships at sea were taken
For everything that I once held dear was taken below.

I once had the love of my life
Only with me she would reside
But when the cold moon sang with a softer tone
You never again could stop looking at the sky.

I've recently been reading the Count of Monte Cristo, and I think it is the inspiration to this poem since Edmond Dantes has pretty much been through almost everything this poem talks about. Hope you enjoy!
