Lightning Girl
Lightning Girl
I am leading a life littered with bus tickets.
I have my head in the clouds and the moon at my fingertips.
I had a unicycle, now it lies dusty in the garage with a flat tire.
I was born under a lucky Chinese star.
I win every lottery I enter.
I never played soccer with the other kids.
I thought my toys winked at me when I turned.
I thought I could stop wars.
I have waded through rice fields, planting soft green seedlings.
I want to shiver below an icy waterfall again.
I grin wickedly up at fierce thunderstorms.
I lie in the grass and count shooting stars
while my mind floats through space.
I've lost the weekends when I would paint for hours
I miss feeling like it was OK to wear my old overalls
I miss lying by the fireplace with my dog
I hate buses.
I can't feel my arms when I wake up each morning
And I never know where I am or what I'm doing
I painted for the first time in months and felt nothing
But I'm holding out
For another raining night,
another Thunderstorm.
