Better to Be

I run down, back, and down.
I catch, drop, catch, drop, catch.
I run, stop, run, stop, run.
There are two but I choose only one.
I hold, pass, catch, hold, and pass.
I sit, stand, holler, sit, stand, and run.
I catch, jump, take the blow and fall.
I fall, and hit. I hit the floor.
I cry, cry out in pain. I try, try
So hard not to cry. But one comes
Then a few, tears.
I get up, with some help.
I walk across the court, I limp.
I wipe my eyes, and try to smile.
There's no reason, but I act like the sun.
I know that sitting out is what I'll do.
I guess I'm a benchwarmer.
I'll cheer and encourage.
I'll be good and try not to sass.
I know patience is a virtue.
So I guess I'll wait to get better.
To get good and gain the right to say "better to be".
