Gone

Once I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up,
I answered a famous ballerina.
I was asked two years later,
And my answer changed to being a veterinarian.
Years later in middle school again I was asked,
My answer this time was I don’t know.
When I had to write a paper about it in high school,
I wrote about how I didn’t know.
Childish dreams tossed to the wayside,
I lost the art of dreaming,
And being,
The innocence taken,
Stolen,
Gone.
