That Letter

Washed away upon the shore,
I find clams, and shells, and rocks, and more.
But one little thing
That caught my eyes,
Was an old green bottle,
As old as the sky.

I dug it from the sand,
And held it in my hand.
A closer look I find,
There’s a letter trapped inside.

I did all I could to retrieve it,
But I had no tweezers.
There was just no way to read it
Without breaking what concealed it.

And as I regret is so,
That letter will never be read,
And no one will ever know
Exactly what that letter said.
