A Leaf, A Life

The tree branches sway
In the shifting winds.
I imagine each leaf
As a human life,
Sprouting from the world.
Like the leaves,
We are sometimes tossed
On the winds of life.
Now and then
A leaf,
A life,
Floats free
As someone, somewhere,
Closes their eyes
And joins their Maker.
We pray to not be plucked
Before autumn rolls around,
But we will all fly
Eventually,
Becoming a star
In the endless heavens.
