Face in the Mirror

A face to stare back, one you never saw
Those deep blue eyes, that lofty broken jaw
Could you see, what you wanted to mean
But see instead those words, that made you preen

Circle the spots, the things that don't fit
To your image of you, or what you want for it
Dig a little deeper, behind the fragile glass
See for yourself, what you'll make come to pass

Here I see the myself, but am blinded by my face
I'm nothing to anyone, just an extension of space
I can't see those eyes, that look back so sad
Telling me I'm real, and things aren't so bad

I see the words, formed upon my lips
But destroy them I do, with my ready-made whips
Born of my memories, my beliefs as well
Those things I hold to, that jealous little spell

So seek to look, with an eye of truth
Through the smoke, the doubts of youth
See your self, and all you need
Don't listen to your doubt, just ignore what you believed
