Nicotine

Breathe in the fire
Breathe out the smoke
Watch the squirrels climb higher
Watch the grass blades glow.

Listen to the birds' morning song
As you feel the cool air surround you
Know that the bad is long gone
The ocean is above you.

Sitting there with his shirt
Watching the cigarette disappear
You notice all the times you've hurt
Are no where near.

The ants go around your foot
As the ashes fall to the ground
The nicotine has you hooked
In this serenity you've somehow found.

You watch the world around you
And all you think of is that name
The feelings overwhelm you
But calm you the same.

You look to the left
Look to the right
Take another exhausted breath
Then you know he's your never-ending life.
