United

September eleventh on a beautiful morning
the construction was all set to go
It was 1941, checking tools and practice runs
to create a building called a Pentagon
Just every day workers spreading out blue prints
Figuring it'd be useful to the state.

People tuned in for the updates all year seeing just
what was the center called World Trade?

From Britain to Brazil, New York was a city
that maybe would be nice to see
A young English teen's study on the American country
To go sightseeing could have been an Irishman's dream
What people don't realize maybe one day they'll open their eyes
And see other country's grief

I remember that tuesday morning
Sitting in my second grade class
Seeing the faces of the teacher's anger
fear and sheer disbelief
Knowing D.C. was merely an hour away
Was it a fluke? Then we found out it was an attack

Where was I when the world stopped turning, well
I was too young to understand
Were you with your mother? A sister or brother?
Were you alone or out somewhere with friends?
God I'm sorry if you had someone in those
buildings or if you fought for your own life in defense
Could you imagine ground zero? Just talking on your cell
or turn on the tele and realize your husband was in that hell
Either way you shed something, sadness or in ignorance
You shed a little of youself.
For the United States
The Kingdom
and Nation
Even if you knew nothing at all- at least you do now
You still gave that piece of your spirit for others
for we're all made of flesh
Were all united in the end somehow

I don't know if you care or not I think everyone in the world was affected somehow
