Wasting Away

You have to quit stomping your boots around like you own the town
Sooner or later you're gonna get what comes around
Whether it's fresh as roses or a coffin in the ground
You said nobody can keep you down
I sure as hell ain't going to stick around and find out
I've worn the holes in the bottom of my soles, walking miles
You've torn the holes in your own shadow
Walking dirt roads with nowhere signs for empty souls
Pledging life and limb
You'd throw away anything for your own identity
No money to give, a good bet will always win
Sure enough you sit everyday at the counter of sin, drinking 'till you forget
No one can save such a lost soul
You don't want pity from a fool
Apathy takes you when you've got nothing to lose
Your heart awakes you when you've lost all hope
Is the bar how you can cope?
It's the only thing keeping you here, the matter of not having to go anywhere
Folks are sure to steer clear of that wicked man downtown, harassing patrons and drinking past sundown
I won't be the one to drive you out but I won't watch you waste too many minutes again
Your mistakes won't be forgiven
Waste away somewhere that's not here
You don't care, so why would anyone else be fair
