Beating On

The beginning, where we started
Was as good as good could be,
until soon, our minds had parted,
and our path, I could not see.

My life once seemed so endless,
but you've given me some faith
by the way you've left me breathless,
hope staining all your face.

Things have changed since then,
And I can't come to these terms.
It's getting harder by the day,
And my heart, though still, it churns.

I yearn for what we had,
In future and past, of dawn,
In times of worship, and of the grand
Still, we're stranded, beating on.

I believe we shall repent,
Be fixed and on our way.
Oh, however more I resent,
that time be wasted away.

There's so much I need to say,
But I'm not sure where to start;
You've broken every promise,
like the way you broke my heart.

And even now, it seems that our own love
Is tearing us apart.
