Bumbershoot

On a cold rainy day when the skies are so gray,
an inviting hotel just begs you to stay,
when along comes a man, so old and so wise,
he asked me "what's wrong, and don't be sayin' no lies"
I told him "I'm cold and I'm wet and miles from home"
He said "come along," and we walked through the foam
on the way back to home, it started pouring some rain,
the man said "no worries, there'll be no pain"
he pulled out an umbrella with a polka-dot top,
then suddenly hail began to drop,
it pelted and tore at out umbrella cover,
and we the adults, ran as though lovers,
running from flying ice and sleet,
as we ran we lost feeling in our feet,
and suddenly one hit the old man in the head,
he fell over on the ground as though he drank too much mead,
he said "take this bumbershoot, it'll protect you from the pain"
and I walked away the bumbershoot shielding me from the rain.
I miss that old man, so old and so wise,
and since then, I ain't told no lies.
