Explianations

Skin of ivory. Hair like night.

The voice of a siren. Green eyes, shimmering yet missing light.

A tortured smile plays on her mouth. Lips made red by human blood.

Her victim lies lifeless, face down, in a puddle of dark brown mud.

She turns to bolt, because the truth is -- she cares.

She cares that he's dead.

But, she'd had no choice.

She'd had to get him out of her head.

She remembered how he'd tasted when he had kissed her.

Now as the flavor of his blood lingered on her tongue, her heart filled with dread.

Dammit! She had loved him and he her, she was sure.

Why, oh why had she done this? It wasn't the cure.

She was stronger than this curse, the pains of her love and fears.

But was she strong enough, she wondered, to bear through the ever persistent tears?

She goes back to the alley. He deserved to be buried, it was the least she could do.

She turned the corner, wishing this was over, done, and through.

She bent down to pick him up and... He was gone!

Large, warm hands grabbed her shoulders to lift her to her feet and spin her around.

And, who would it be except the one she thought was now Heaven bound?

He was showing his fangs and hissing. Wait, fangs? Fangs! He was not dead! She was not alone!

Not thinking she threw her arms around him, eyes filling with so many unshed tears that even in the dark they shone.

To her surprise he hugged her back, gently stroking her hair.

All the while her chest heaved both from shock and lack of air.

She needed to explain, but she could barely think.

Her mind was racing. Love filling her to the brink.

He pulled back slightly to look into her eyes, pain clenching in his chest at the discovery of her tears.

All he had left to do was to tell her he understood,l that he loved her too, and calm her fears.

"I love you!" they stated at the same time. "I'm sorry," she said. "my heart was in agony and it wouldn't stop. I didn't know what else to do."

He kissed her, tasting his own blood. "You don't have to explain, I was looking for you, too."
