Paper People

Race across a ribbon
of candy caned roads

Tree caress my face
and rivers would sing

promising gingerbread houses
and delicate fairy wings

I search aimlessly
for a companion

Blowing kisses to
the few wanderers

only to watch them
be carried away

with paper limbs
and glass hearts

no source of protection
we lay defenseless
