bottomless lake

Now isn't the water, ever so serene?
Right before the storm it appears to gleam,
with a sheen of black pitch, reflecting the sky:
heavy clouds above, wanting to fly.

I once had that dream of hands intertwined
Our souls together as if sharing one mind
A push and pull of waves, a dynamic tide
From the first glance you pulled me in for the ride *

It was lovely at first, won't you agree?
We dove in together like perfect harmony
But i guess I stopped breathing a little too late
And though our hands were tied, you knew your fate

So you let me go gently, and I slipped away
My head against the rocky bottom of the murky, black bay
Our eyes closed together, and you'd never see
I had stopped swimming up, so the waves took me

A cradling cushion, rocking me in peace
An end to the trouble I'd wanted to cease

Now isn't the water, ever so deep?
Just a basin of secrets to forever keep.
Maybe you'll never see, all the reasons as to why
Cuz you had looked away before even saying goodbye.
