An instant that changes a lifetime
The sadness overwhelming the sublime
As man rises from the ashes of his grave,
The precious years of his life that he gave
With his corpse lifeless though carrying on
Withered and gone
Like the flowers by the headstones
Forgotten and alone
No memorial could lighten the burden
Of all the images and thoughts burned in
To his mind, to his heart, an empty space
Where he should be, a soulless face
On a soulless body, suffocating, gasping
Slipping and barely grasping
Succumbing to the horrors of reality
Dispatched and finally free.
