Broken Mirrors

I beg you to leave the bitter cold,
Come inside where you’ll be safe.
I can’t protect you forever you know,
Especially when you’re so well hidden.
And you’re poking your head around the corner,
Begging to be let out of your prison,
But nobody will understand you.
Stay inside where I can keep you warm.
Please don’t try and run, there’s no point.
Don’t make a fool of yourself.
Please, not again.
Once you reach the outside you can’t come in.
Please reconsider before you leave.
I know that they won’t understand.
They never did, so why would they now?
If you go, then I will cease to exist,
All we’ve worked towards will be gone.

Now when I look back on this,
I see all the broken glass.
Shattered and scattered upon the floor.
The impact broke it instantly.
I guess if I’m crazy enough to talk to myself.
Then I’m crazy enough to throw myself against the glass.
I guess I'll do what it takes to free myself.
