Did you know?

That girl you just called insane,
The one who you used to be friends with,
Did you know she heard you?
Or when you joked that she belonged in a mental asylum?
Well she did, I did.

Your daughter who you called a stupid fat let down,
Did you know she was standing just around the corner?
Did you know she heard and cried herself to sleep?
I do.

One of your former students,
Did you know how inadequate you made her feel when you called her stupid?
When you humiliated her in front of the class,
And that YOU’RE the reason why she quit orchestra,
I do.

Ever figure out that one of swimmers cuts and starves herself yet coach,
That she sees you staring at the cuts,
And her exposed ribs,
And wishes you would say something?
Well I do.

Oh brother did you know that when you touched her you broke her,
That every day she feels dirty and disgusting,
And every time she tries to relax she feels your fingers,
And the shame all over again?
I do.

Older peer you know that girl you called uncomfortable,
Did you know how self-conscience she,
How your words made her torment herself,
That it made her want to dig a hole and never crawl out of it?
I do.

I know because I was there and I heard,
And I saw and I watched,
But I don’t care anymore you can say and do whatever you want,
Because the voices in my head are mimicking you,
And I don’t need you to tell me anymore.
