Death

Death
‘Am I really going to die?’
These thoughts run through the minds of the weary, the helpless and the ones affected by the beast known as ‘Death’
An elderly man lying in his death bed as a cancerous tumor takes another priceless life from this world
The shallow breathing of a little girl after a tragic car accident, blood pouring from her mangled body
The screams of a young boy as he is tortured; beaten and stabbed by the hands of his predators
Who is to control the loss of the lives of ones who deem not deserving of death?
Some say it is Him who chooses while others say it is at the decision of Chance, the never-ending cycle of new lives replacing the old
Whether it is the latter of the two or not, in a sense, Death seems to pick and choose the ones that must leave this world behind, almost always against the loved ones’ will
It is at hope that the precious souls of Earth only disappear when their life energy is needed to supply the universe with the very essence of their existence
Even past the transparent boundary where Life meets Death, there is no illustrious feeling of pleasure and happiness after moving on
No.
When the tides turn and it is your time to cease living, remember that there is no one to rescue you
No one to harm you
No one to love you
And the encompassing glare of Death as it stares you in the face finds no fear in demolishing your existence and erasing you from the minds of the ones that cared for you most
Beyond the gates is a warm yet eerie welcoming, an intriguing glance at what you’re in for once having crossed over
In a world where selfishness and hatred rule, would anyone truly care if you vanished without a trace?

Probably one of my darker poems....
