How Can My Heart Ever Erase the Pain

How can my heart ever erase the pain
You left behind from betrayal and lies
That left your lips, as gentle as the rain,
But with enough force as if you have trained
Yourself in the practice of breaking hearts?
Your words were coated with all that is pure
Only to hide that you would tear apart
My love and my trust in a bright future.
Though your words broke all of my trust in life,
And my belief that I'll find happiness,
I would rather you stab me with your knife
Of lies than never knowing your sweet kiss.
So in my heart, I try to not regret
The memories of you I won't forget.
