Swallow

The poison hangs on the edge of her throat,
Like a foolish king drowning in his own moat
She’s choking slowly, but ask what’s wrong
And she'll part her swollen lips in a beautiful song.

She lies for her life and dies for her lies,
She lies every night by her coffin and cries.
Nobody knows she couldn’t breathe,
When she sang that song so beautifully.

The moment she finally loses her voice,
Comes the day she has a final choice.
Keep on choking and live in silent pain,
Or swallow the poison and fade away.

But the venom has yet to grant her wish,
When she tries to swallow, and can't persist
So as a foolish king cheats his own decree,
She opens her lips to set the poison free.

It's been locked through her teeth forever, it seems
And she's finally alive, now that she can breathe
So she parts her tired lips to the sky to scream,
But the sky scorns upon her as she struggles to speak.

The words have been stolen, her voice has been lost.
To keep her life, her voice was the cost.
And she pleads for forgiveness, but it never appears
For when you don't speak, nobody hears.
