Dear Departed Friend

As night falls upon us
In all its stars and moon
We never stop to think
The sun will rise again
Instead we cry out farewells
As though it's a forever departing friend
Being helped into the grave so cold
By a hand chilled with wind
Never to return
We know the sun will come back
White-hot enough to burn
But what of the drop of dew
Vanished in morning heat
Like a soul's departure
Never to come again
We say good bye to morning dew
Without so much as a tear
But our farewells to the returning sun
Are always filled with fear
