Look at Me

When you look at me
I bet you see
A glowing girl,
Who you believe is good and happy.
But you don’t realize that
People can see whatever they want,
just not the truth.

When you look at me, you look at my face,
Not at the bands on my wrists
Or the sleeves I use in my defense
Because my smile is confident,
While everything else is wanting to let out an
long wail of pain

when you look at me,
you can’t tell the
pink or shiny scars I hide
are because without them
the smile would be a frown
the glow a cloud
the wail would come out
and people would see the real me.
