Like A Broken Record

Call be a broken record
For all the skipping that I do
It's nonsense, really
Because my mind never had a clue
I hate that this gramophone won't play the melody of my heart
So I sit on this shelf and think
While I watch the sparrows fly by
Wings spread in my mind, I take to the sky
Laughter ringing as I say goodbye
I was never one for poise
And grace doesn't come easily
But like a broken record
I'm unique and there's only one of me
My scratches create a different sound
As the record spins round and round (oh, this spinning drives me crazy)
My mind is misplaced
But somehow I never miss a beat
It's strange when a girl asks a boy to dance
But there's nothing wrong with that at all (no, nothing at all)
It's just the way the dice fall
And I think I rather like it
Daises bloom like the thoughts in my head
Viens tying me so loosely together
And freedom has never felt this fine
Paper mache hearts take me back to the start
And we begin our story again
Dancing through fields of black and white
Always makes my eyes hurt as I gaze up at the technicolor sky
I lay back in the grass and close my eyes
And like butterflies, broken records whisper their lullabies
Telling me 'Dear, there's nothing to fear'
'So it's best if you just skip along'
So after a rest, I'm off again
Telling people what they already know
Life is like a broken record
Full os skips, scratches, and dents
But if you really care
I'm sure you'll find a reason to stay here
And not just skip away.
