Vocabulary from a Distance

I learned the word "caliginous" today,
But all I see in it are hate dates by the moonlight
And no lover with any worldly experience
Would ever know why.

I'll pretend they won't exist,
But disappointment is a hard-concealed emotion.

Once, not long ago,
The wise anonymous, online face
Wrote, I must believe to me
"The more words one knows to describe one's suffering,
The more distantly she can perceive it."

I'm sure I don't remember the quote correctly, though.
Memory is a wonderfully subjective thing
And I suppose, so is distance.

I could blame closeness and smothering for my misery.

But I don't quite know where "away" is
And junior high school taught me specificity
Is the only correct way to paint the entire picture.

Science never really seemed like it was about art.
I, however, do appreciate its loquacious objectivity.

Distance seems greater at night.
And try as I might, I cannot describe the two AM sky
As caliginous; perhaps I must step outside to
Truly perceive it.
