Why The Caged Bird Sings

She woke up to a caged bird singing
She watches its clipped wings move with purpose but remain in chains
The caged bird sings a song that wakes the heart
He sings a song that has Shakespeare turning in his grave
He sings to the moon and sings to the stars
The caged bird sings to the sun on a warm blue day
And flaps its wings with purpose but remains in chains
Rattle the cage it says
Bend these prison bars
Because my wings have a purpose but I remain in chains
Cut my shackles Heal my wings
Because freedom is calling from the sky and above
She listens to the song opening her soul
The caged bird sings to freedom and not to her
Happiness is so far away
But his wings still flap for a purpose
Even though he remains in chains
He flaps his wings

Just something I got from reading Maya Angelou's poem, one of my favorite writers. You can interpret this any way you want.
