I Forgot (What Simply is Not)

So close and yet so far away/ there isn't anything left to say/ there isn't anything I haven't said to you/ And if I lose myself and pretend for a while/ that I'm someone else/ don't blame me/ I'm only playing your game/ It isn't my fault we're so much the same

And I often forget when we're all alone/ that this isn't what's real/ it was never set in stone/ and I could talk all day long about what simply is not/ but for the sake of us both/ let's pass through and say I loved you but I forgot

Here we are again/ with you extending your metaphorical hand out to me/ and I regret/ never knowing how the end would leave me/ never more than realizing that we were always make believe

And I often forget when we're all alone/ that this isn't what's real/ it was never set in stone/ and I could talk all day long about what simply is not/ but for the sake of us both/ let's pass through and say I loved you but I forgot

In the end did it ever really matter/ I think not/ it matters little as all is said and done/ but it makes me sad/ it makes me feel alone/ when I look inside my heart and know/ you'll never really be gone

And I often forget when we're all alone/ that this isn't what's real/ it was never set in stone/ and I could talk all day long about what simply is not/ but for the sake of us both/ let's pass through and say I loved you but I forgot
