Restless Momentum of Memories

Tortured screams soundlessly glide over fifty-two oceans, sixteen skies, and two souls
Lost in momentum, trapped in a river, forced to conform into the meandering flow
Fingers so unsympathetic and dirty, trespassing private property, carving future scars into mental boulevards
Tears slip down her cheeks, cutting her like fallen glass shards, envisioning a noose hanging from a motionless tree in the yard
Two miles away, he’s sprawled out drunk on an ottoman, basking in numbness, relatively unscarred
Memories insert themselves into the folds of her brain,
initiating catastrophic hurricanes and persistent migraines

Xanax & Navane soothe her slim, slender frame;
confirming that life will never remain the same
Droplets of bitter vodka coat her lips;
she wears a cigarette in her cheek in muddled shame

Blades & murmured lullabies ease her into dreamland,
Take a risk; reach out and grab her lost hand
