Saints Protect Them Now

She was young and so in love
She never stood a chance
Blinded by his wit and charm,
And his confident, handsome stance.

He was reckless to say the least
His life, a constant mess
But he knew she could be the one
From their very first caress

Their friends all talked, some disapproved
They did their hardest to ignore
On the outside they had the perfect life
But inside was a constant war

"Please," she begged, "Don't go like this,
You don't even understand."
"I don't want to," he screamed.
"Don't talk to me! Call up some other man!"

It was the same argument they had last night
And the other night before
But this time he yelled "I don't love you!"
Right before he slammed the door.

His pride was making him run away
He was scared and she could tell
How could he help her raise a child
When he was still one himself?

But he realized he would have to change
So he turned the car around
But when he burst back through that door
She was nowhere to be found.

"Tragic struck," the woman said
That night on the 11 o'clock news
The car crash involved a young woman with child
The fire claimed all but her shoes.

He should have shown he loved her,
But he didn't quite know how
Today they're sleeping six feet under,
And saints protect them now.
