The Shadow Eater

Shadow capes, dragon eyes, whispering trees and half-seen shapes
Brush strokes upon silver skin
And a pair of moonlit twins.
Haste, a chase and then again, a taste of sugared shadow

Fly my fleet-footed hart
From you I must part
A tiny star has burst within my chest
From the trees I shake and scatter birds' nests

My anger grows, pulses, steams
eagerly fed, red lies, misread words and broken beds
My tears gather, fuller, streams
creating rivulets of glimmering heart-sorrow

Susurrate kiss,...No. Can't afford to reminisce
A shuddering gasp. Don't grasp at me so
I teeter, this shadow eater before the yawning abyss, swaying to and fro
My fingers tighten and meet as you die slowly in your burrow seat
