Tales of the Stars

I watch the stars sometimes
I lie in the grass and sing softly to myself
Singing to the stars
Telling them stories

The ones about ships and pirates are their favorite
They whisper to me at night
Wishing I would tell them again
Wishing I would tell the tale of a little girl
A little girl that fought pirates

But I never did tell them
That that girl was me
And those pirates no longer exist

I never did tell them that my heart was broken
And the pirates had stolen my heart
I never told them about the love I lost

Because who wants to listen to a love story?
There are so many others out there
So many more exciting, funny and lovable stories to tell
Why would they want to listen to a love story?

Especially when it wasn’t the love
One normally sees
It was secret love, invisible to the naked eye
It was love only I knew about

She didn’t know and she never will
All I have are the stories
All I have are the stars.
