So Why Am I?

Before you walked away.
Before you ever left.
Before the sun shine left our faces.
You were here.
And so was I.
We shouldn’t have been here at all.
We should have never came.
But what are we to do when the sunset calls to us?
When the birds sang their songs for us?
It was just us three;
Nature, you and me.
Our parents didn’t matter.
The rules didn’t apply.
We were young.
We were in love.
The world was our stage,
The sunlight our cues.
The wind was our blood,
The birds’ song our breath.
Then came the unfortunate day,
The day you parents swept you away.
And suddenly,
The sun was no more.
And now you’ve walked away.
And now you’ve left.
And now the sun shine’s left our faces.
And now you’re not here.
So why I am?
