We're Older Now

Hold my hand, we're older now-
I'm not sure how it happened but the lines beneath
our eyes that used to crease with laughter
have grown into wraps of skin full of memories and time.

Hold my gaze, we're older now-
Even though our eyes have the same child-like wonder
they don't focus anymore, the tears
fall as the last of youth cries out across our cheeks.

Hold my thoughts, we're older now-
I still love you as I used to, those summer nights
are all my mind can hold of you without
spilling any and wasting the precious time I have to keep.

Hold me close, I'm older now-
I need you wrapped around to keep me warm,
the saftey within your arms makes me less afraid to
drown beneath the waves and exchange my final gasps of life.
