Beneath

Beneath

Look beneath the make-up and behind the plain brown eyes,
Push away her shyness and you'll see her come to life.
You'll know all her secrets and find out all her regrets,
You can really get to know her; you just have to give her a chance.

Take away her hurt, and you'll actually see her smile.
Tell her it's good she's back, and hug her like there's no tomorrow.
Tell her that you miss her, and that you never want her to leave again.
Slowly let her trust you, and have her fall in love all over again.

Grasp her hand tightly, and whisper that you'll never let her go.
See her smile shyly, and watch as love takes it toll.
Push your lips on hers gently, and whisper the three words she's always feared.
Hear her whisper them back, quietly, before her eyes slowly fill with tears.

Tell her that you're leaving her now. That you've found someone else who's better.
Watch her crumple into pieces, slowly. Begging you to read her last love letter.
Watch her eyes slowly fill with tears, that you promised you would never cause.
And walk away slowly, leaving her behind in the fog.

Her parents watch her now as she stares at herself in the mirror,
As she wonders what's wrong with her, and if things will ever get better.
So, she ruffles her hair and straightens her clothes.
She doesn't feel pretty anymore, so she writes her last note.

Dear loved ones, she starts to write as tears stream down her face.
I'm sorry I can't be good enough, you'll find someone to take my place.
Soon I'll be gone, there will nothing left of me.
The only thing that you'll remember is the sound of my dying pleas.

To the person who was my world, you know who you are:
I will never forget those long, pointless drives in your car.
But I guess I'm nothing to you now, because you don't even acknowledge me.
I wrote this to let you know just how much you really meant to me.

She signs her name with a shaky hand. Closes it slowly, and seals it with a stamp.
She sets it outside her parent's door, before sneaking away quietly and locking the bathroom door.
She takes the gun that she found downstairs, and stares at it like it's a diamond,
Before closing her eyes slowly and putting the nuzzle to her head.
Please, God. Forgive me, she whispers,
As she draws her final breath.
