Caged & Freed

She wears long sleeves to cover the bruises
And hides behind sunglasses so no one can see her blackened eyes

The doctors always ask, "Oh why, oh why are you always coming back here?"
Lies and excuses fly out of her mouth
Even though she doesn't tell the truth, they know what's going on

And trust me she wants to ask for help
But she's oh so scared of what he'll do when he finds out

Oh no, she's so scared to go home
Oh no, she never wants to see him again

She can't take it anymore
It's getting to be too much
She has to escape
She has to be free

In the night she runs
Leaving a note taped to the refrigerator that simply says: We're over.

And now she's finally free to spread her wings and fly
Without worrying about being shot down by him
