Minutes Best Act When Employed

Minutes always ticking on the clock
like footsteps marching to degree-dom,
where did the motivation come from
to plan our lives into the gravestone?
Miss when love was my biggest issue
now I've got college blues en lieu
friends are far and too few
who'd ask, "can i get you a tissue?"

best friend's birthday, march eighth
my mom says friend
"friend" italicized
the relationship's finalized
why can he break up with her
no questions to their status
but for a girl to have a female ex
there must be something more about us?

act a fool when I'm drunker than my mother
finding excuses not to hurt her
when she manipulates the genre
of family, companionship
i am not my father
Though I wish I could be
without taking my momma's money
the breadwinner is a drunkard
because I can't get into Harvard

when i find myself all alone
with the beatles i am ringo
i am a bodhisattva on this old globe
i chant nam-myoho-renge-kyo
staying positive is hard, though
when its college or retirement
harsh reality where your dream went
I cannot withhold this tableau
when your picture-perfect parents
have a falling out, go home

employed my room with roses dead
valentine's lilies still alive
they always thrive like
my bloodshot eyes
not from a high
but the tears i cry
cliches are for the passé
my first day on the highway
not gonna fake it for a good lay
it's alright; life will be okay
