Poison

And we’re born alone,
our hearts pumping blood as fast as it can face,
in and out,
don’t forget to breathe
don’t forget to scream

And each second
(tick, tock)
We gasp again
carbon monoxide drenching our lungs
dripping slowly to the tune of a broken faucet
(Our lungs are broken)
They scream in the agony of intense poison
The only thing our minds cannot reverse.

And it dies-
our minds in such despair it lies down
it curls into that which we fear most:
A shadow
Following along as if stalking our actions
no interference whatsoever:
it lets us fail

We calmly shrink back
as we come alive in the pain
we are unleashed into this mess of
lead and gunpowder
AI technology and murder
It is simplicity in desirable undertaking
we call to it with our voices strong

And as we emerge,
through not our birth but our knowing,
we become a stranger to our eyes,
a repulsive beloved,
that we do at once turn our backs.

And as we grow blind and
our minds feign dead
we realize that which has already been assumed:
We are born alone
with no one to hold our tiny hands
and gather everything into one
understandable plotline

As our eyes open wider our vision does blur
our minds reel in their new- found commandment
seeking for only to live another day,
though knowing that its time has past:
We Die.

Our heart beats slower and slower,
until its usefulness is consumed,
coldness spreading to the ends of our toes
Body, though
the only victim.

Take a deep breath.
Allow our minds to have one last nourishment,
until it does,
at last,
exhale the poison in one deep blow
knowing that perhaps:
We live in singular denial
but die with complete awareness
