Consideration

I considered all the things he said
About the struggles and the tears
And how they say people come together in crisis,
But every day is a crisis and there are still people alone.

Now we’re alone in the dark
And the mirror that hung on the wall is shattered.
Broken glass is the remedy but not the cure
So close your eyes and let it all flow out.

Open your eyes and paint me a darker shade of grey,
Speak words that blur into cliché.
Ask me my name just to see if I stutter when I tell you,
And now breathing feels like swallowing sidewalks.

There we were,
And he saw me through grey-tear eyes,
And I cloaked my tears in ambivalent shadows
So no one could see the blood soaking my shirt as I cried.

I think the stars are crying for me.
Frozen nostalgia chills the vodka in my throat,
Melts into the puddles I step over
On my way out of the real world.
