Emily

Fingers shaking, she’s holding on the best she can
but the stars can see right through her and so can I.
She swears she’s fine and smiles like the sun won’t burn
But I see the wobble in her step and the tears she won’t let fall.

Like dreams that don’t come true at night
And trees that bend when you climb,
She’s the one who’s falling now
And she’ll never say how she cries in the silence.

His name is still written on the inside of her wrist,
Memories scattered over her bedroom floor,
The things she can’t let go of.
She won’t speak the truth, though she knows I can see.

Green eyes hidden, she walks away from everything
And doesn’t stop to pick up shattered pieces
Like fragmented beings, shadows in her heart,
But her whole heart is a shadow now.

Black roses drip from her lips like lies,
And she swears she’s fine and smiles like the sun won’t burn.
Sometimes I almost believe her,
Actress that she is, wish her mask would fall.
