Where Are You, Moon?

Dear luminous moon, where are you this hazy night?
For the hours of darkness seem dimmer without your soft light
You’ve concealed yourself from the sun’s unblemished rays
Refusing to reflect its beauty, declining to display
Alas, even the dullest of stars outshine you in the sky
And the clouds encasing your magnificence begin to multiply
As a soft drizzle from the billows does come,
The rain pounding the ground with a gentle hum
I tilt my head back to feel the showering rain on my face
To discover you’ve come back and recovered your place
Shining brilliantly and so vivid in the atmosphere
Promising to not shortly again disappear
And I welcome you back with open arms, dear moon
Simply hoping you will not leave anytime soon
