Too much Love for Love

It's just not right.
that we aren't right.

It's just not fair.
that you're so fair.

I think that I could love you.
And I think you'd love me too.
But I'd never ask that now,
I don't want us to fall foul.
"Let's just be friends," you'd say,
Then we'd simply slip away.

I know as well as you, it's true,
We could never live it through.
It cannot be today, you say,
"A friend is all I think of you."

"But isn't that what she sought?" I thought.
It's something for which I have fought.
Yet then she'd tell me nay, no way,
And I'd regret the trouble I'd wrought

Why can't we
simply be?
There's no problem I can see.

I'm so lost
and the cost
is that my heart will soon frost.

I'm just so dumb, and reason one:
For without you, how is love true?
