Sometimes When It Storms

Sometimes when it storms
I run barefoot through the rivers
that run down the curbside
and I am a giant in the Mississippi
washing my feet in the current.
The wind climbs down my throat
and makes me choke,
until I disappear into it.
I come back in the lightning,
and when my soles hit the ground
I scream thunder
and my voice is God's
powerful, universal, and meaningless.
