The Bride of Pain

Her friends, her family, her lovers,
This young girl loves her people so.
Since the man would only accept the most beautiful lover,
Of course she was volunteered to go.

The man promised prosperity,
The man promised rain,
Everything, Everything,
Would put the girl through pain.

He took her hand,
Calmy dressed in silk,
Put her on a boat,
Away from her people.

You'll grow to love me,
He had said to her.
No, She said,
I never will.

This angered the man,
So he struck her face,
Yet no tears shined,
Tears he wanted to hate.

She faced him so,
Eyes so bold,
A voice commanding,

"If I am to be damned to hell with you, It will be on my own terms."
