Sonnet I

Winter is beginning to unfold.
The snow falls wet and heavy to the ground
Like lovers' clothing, water-soaked and cold.
Beyond the window, life moves without sound.
Lights across the city have been strung
That blink and flicker at the window pane
While to each others' bodies lovers clung
With kisses that would taste like candy canes.
The blankets lay discarded on the floor
While snow has made a blanket of its own
Soon the winter wind begins to roar
A storm begins, all silence overthrown.
Lovers through the night remain entwined
And hold each other on their tongues like wine.
