Haunting

The woods are haunted
by spiders that hang,
unseen,
on ghost-like threads
spinning webs that
glimmer in the morning dew
and watching.
Unlike other creatures
crawling in and out of
their hidey holes,
they are not prone to gossip.
They keep their own counsel,
but they see and they hear
everything from the
trysts of young lovers
escaping their parents' sight
to the adventures of schoolchildren
on treasure hunts
the world as it is
when it thinks no one is
watching.
