Safe.

Every night,
She knows she's trapped,
The memories remind her.

With a single scream,
He knows they've returned,
Coming back as a silent killer.

Her body rattles against his,
A cold wind to rush through her sensitive bones.
Her long hair strewn and soaked in the rain.

He's strong,
His arms wrapped around her,
Promising her security and safety.

She tries to fight them off,
Bits and pieces of horrible memories,
She begs them to leave her alone.

She's a wreck,
A collaboration of pain,
Beautifully painted crevices and twists of blood, on a skin canvas.

He promises her,
He tells her,
How he just wants to keep her safe.

She knows he's there,
Through every memory,
Every nightmare.

As many tears she cries,
He'll stay there,
Making sure she's not hurt.

He'll drown every once of pain,
With his comforting words.
“Please stay. You're not going to be hurt anymore.”
