The Wonder About Wanderers
There are kids fooling around
across the street
I can hear them
on the other side
of my bedroom window
They are leaning
against a tree with peeling bark
and withered branches
and they are breathing in
each other's air
I wonder briefly
if they should be wearing sweaters
because the wind outside is chilled
but their skin is pressed
very close
and they are not cold.
