The Doll

A gift, a prize, a trophy wife.
Make me up and take me down
Present me as a new found toy
Shiny and rare, and worth you time.

Hug me, kiss me, infatuate me.
Explain this false emotion we humans call love.
Sing and dance and prance around
Catch my attention and keep it on you.

Wandering eyes tell us no lies.
I hide no secrets but their own.
They long for the flare of true loves deep blue.
We close our brown windows when you throw us a grin.

You love me, I hate you not.
But my heart belongs to me alone.
I'm nothing more than the doll you've made.
Let's finish this game, put me back on the shelf

I was never fully confidant with this poem when I had first written it almost four years ago. I was never really proud of it before my boyfriend stole a copy from me and kept it safely hidden in a book for what's going to be three years now.
