Ramblings of a Non-Poet

So confusing is the poetic works and their authors soul
To create a piece of art written on clean paper.
Does the inspiration come while lying on a grassy knoll
Or maybe on a winter morning, seeing one’s breath and its vapor.

How am I to always know the meaning behind such words?
The possibilities out of reach and always free
Flying away from my grasps like perpetually restless birds
Circling round my head, never resting on a nearby tree.

For some, writing a rhyme is as easy as standing is for a wild fowl
Running since birth with its mother and the wild herds.
But for those of us with difficulties start to get going on a rousing roll
The time it takes to write a line reduces by the thirds.

Here are some hints from a non-poet on if you wish to be a poem maker.
To write a sonnet or balled, one needs not a fancy name or a special degree
But a mind that spans out for miles and miles, encompassing all the acres.
For an open mind and a special sight is all there is to the poetic key.

Just keep in mind that poetry of any kind can take a major toll
When words and meanings are as endless as the deep blue sea.
Just always remember to give credit to creators and never be an Aper
And to keep your mind open so it may catapult your potential into infinite eternity.
