Sincerely, Your Daughter

You always said that you wanted a daughter,
But I can't tell by the way that you treat her.
You act as though she was never born,
And sometimes it seems like she isn't yours.
On the surface it may seem like she isn't affected,
But inside her heart she feels so rejected.
Even though you say you know she's there
She feels invisible, she feels like air.
She wonders if you'll ever love her the way her mother does,
Or if you'll ever call to say hi to her just because.
She hasn't heard those three little words come from you in years
And at times when she thinks of it, her eyes fill with tears.
Confusion clouds her mind when she thinks of her feelings for you,
But at the end of the day she still doesn't have a clue.
In the years to come she'll heal and be okay
In her heart she just wishes for a stronger relationship one day.
She really hopes you understand this,
Every single word,
And realize that what you're doing to her
Is something she never deserved.
